The law on discrimination applies to all employers – no matter how big or small and whatever sector you are in. There is no need for someone to be in employment to bring a claim, so the law also protects, workers, job applicants and former employees.
To make matters worse for businesses, there is unlimited compensation available to a successful claimant as well as being able to award damages for personal injury. How much is the average claimant awarded? In race cases, £24,322, disability discrimination £30,698, sex discrimination £13,212. The highest award was a staggering £242,000.
And it gets worse. Individual managers and colleagues can be held liable – not just the employer.
To help support our clients, we have teamed up with White Horse Employment to offer a FREE* briefing to discuss how employers and managers can protect the business and themselves.
